Workshop in Germany, marketing, 2019

How can we improve the experience of sports fans?

At major sporting events such as world championships or the Olympic Games, large display boards are set up at the venues. They show information about the competition to improve the visitor experience.

Workshop on the sports fan experience

Challenge

Various players are involved in running these display boards. Some provide live content and sponsors’ advertising; others provide the competition data (times, rankings, etc.).

In November 2018, our team went to Germany for a week of workshops with the teams that manage these data flows during competitions. The aim was to improve and simplify the future process, and also to harmonise the content supplied by the different players. In time, the solution will improve the visitor experience and simplify the workflows of the players mentioned above.

How the workshop worked

  1. Introduction to the project
  2. Discussion of the current process and identification of the problem areas
  3. Brainstorming with participants on future solutions
  4. Use of the customer journey to make the selected solutions explicit

In complex projects, our team has to find the right tools for each situation to generate innovative solutions. For this project, our team decided to use a Design Thinking tool called the customer journey. With hand-drawn sketches, it helps understand and explain a complex problem through a story.
