In 2015, Think2Make ran a workshop to boost collaboration and productivity within Red Hat’s teams.
The challenge
Red Hat Inc. is one of the biggest players in collaborative work. However, its teams are spread over different sites in Switzerland and around the world.
Think2Make was asked to help the teams at the Neuchâtel site imagine solutions that boost collaboration.
How it worked
The first step was to define the specifications of the challenge. Then a one-day workshop brought the teams together to work on the challenge in a co-creation format. During the workshop, the teams went through three phases (divergence, emergence, convergence):
The first step was to define the specifications of the challenge.
- Divergence: questions to trigger creativity and open up thinking on the challenges. Examples:
- “How could we reduce our personal productivity?”
- “How could we get bored at work?”
- “What could we do to break off communication with our colleagues?”
- Emergence: a central question was asked as a playful exercise, and staff proposed initiatives. Example: what solutions should we put in place to boost collaboration and our productivity over the next three years?
- Convergence: the proposed solutions were evaluated and planned with the project committee.
Results
The day raised staff awareness of the benefits and challenges of collaboration in a company.
More than 20 solutions were produced during this workshop, and the committee planned the next development steps.
